Lawrie Emmins Reserve is an existing open space reserve located in the north-east corner of the municipality.

The Lawrie Emmins Reserve Master Plan sets a long-term vision for the development of the reserve. The vision includes improvement to formal sport, provision of active recreation opportunities as well as a two-wheel cycling hub.

The Master Plan will guide the potential future development of the reserve over the next decades. Wyndham City will implement the plan in stages based on recommended priorities identified in the plan.

Stage 1 is the construction of a new Gateway / Youth Space at the south western end of the reserve (Sayers Road-Palmers Road corner). Construction is underway and will deliver by the start of 2025:

  • Skate Park
  • Outdoor basketball and netball courts
  • Bouldering Wall
  • Gathering Space including shelters and seating
  • Grassed kick about space
  • Path network
  • Public Toilets
  • Car Park
  • Landscape areas (garden beds, trees etc.)

Stage 2 is the development of the wetlands at the western end of the reserve. This is a Melbourne Water designed and funded project that is dependent on the Authority’s own timeframes. Wyndham City will be a partner in this stage.

Planning and detailed design of council’s other future stages is on hold pending budget availability including external sources of funding.

Benefits:

New infrastructure and space for young people and families.

Gateway and Youth Precinct

The first stage of implementation is the Gateway and Youth Precinct, with work to commence in early 2024.

These works will deliver a skate park, sports courts, open lawn for events, BBQ and picnic facilities, shade and seating, a toilet block, car parking, landscaping and other amenities.

This $4.2 million project includes a $1.5 million Growing Suburbs Fund grant from the Victorian Government.

The space will provide the local community with a space to gather and, in particular, offer a space for young people to participate in a range of active recreation opportunities.
