Call out to local artists who have an interest in developing a practice working with young people.
Wyndham City is thrilled to be partnering with Kids' Own Publishing and children aged 9 to 12 years and their families to co-create and publish a book which gives voice to children and supports their resilience and wellbeing.
We are looking for a local artist to support Kids' Own Publishing’s lead artist Ailsa Wild to deliver a series of art making and text development workshops. The role involves workshop planning with Ailsa, along with workshop delivery and evaluation. Ailsa leads on story writing activities, book creation strategies, content preparation for the book designer – and brings experience of the co-creation of many books with children to this project.
This is a unique paid opportunity for a creative wanting to develop skills in workshop delivery for young people and overall project management skills. The time commitment is estimated to be between 40-45 hours between August and November 2023, with workshop activities taking place on Tuesdays 3:30pm-5:30pm.
Kids Own Publishing and The Project
Kids’ Own Publishing is a not-for-profit arts organisation which co-creates books by kids for kids through a collaborative publishing process which builds confidence, creativity and connection. Kids’ Own Publishing artists guide children to create books that reflect their own specific words and worlds, supporting multilingual children in particular – and their communities – to lead the way in creating new publications for contemporary Australia to enjoy.
In this project, participants will make art and a collaborative book alongside artist Ailsa Wild. Make pictures and a story (using any languages the children want to use), that will be published in a book.
All participants will receive a copy of the book at the end of the project and Wyndham City Council will distribute the remaining copies to the community. There will be a launch party! Kids’ Own Publishing will distribute the books to select libraries.
