Prior to COVID-19, Werribee & Surrounds attracted more than 1.4 million visitors annually, generating more than $435 million in 2018/19.
Historically, visitation has been largely driven by the domestic day trip market (83%), however prior to 2020 that trend was shifting, with international overnight visitors representing our fastest growing marketing (18.3% per annum).
With a large, culturally diverse population our Visiting Friends and Family market (domestic and international) is also a strength.
As a result of COVID-19 and associated lockdowns and travel bans, visitation and yield was significantly impacted in 2020 and 2021 – particularly in the International and Business travel markets..
In 2021-22 Domestic Day Trips and the Visiting Friends and Family market segments have been the first to show signs of recovery in our region.
