I'm currently in 7th grade, and I believe I am a strong candidate due to my diverse achievements and leadership roles. As school captain, I played a key role in significant events such as visits from Tim Watts and Sarah Connolly. I helped facilitate tours for teachers from Truganina South Primary School, showcasing our school and community. Under the principal's guidance, I led a clean-up drive with my friends, demonstrating my commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, I gathered feedback from my peers to drive school improvement. I represented my school at the Werribee RSL Anzac march to honour our veterans, reflecting my respect for our history and community.

As the founder of Organic Living Gardening https://www.facebook.com/melborganicliving, I am proud to have sold over 150 plants, significantly contributing to a greener and brighter future. This achievement reflects my commitment to promoting sustainable living and environmental stewardship. Additionally, I was honoured with the Truganina College Citizenship Award, recognising my dedication to the core values of learning, respect, responsibility, and resilience. This accolade positions me as a deserving candidate for the Young Person of the Month Award, highlighting my contributions to environmental sustainability. I have also collated data from my peers to improve our school, celebrated Remembrance Day with a vow of silence, and initiated a clean-up drive to beautify both the campus and the surrounding community. I am a proponent of Yoga & Meditation for overall wellbeing on individual & society. These initiatives demonstrate my commitment to making a positive impact and fostering a sustainable future for all.

I'm a seventh grader at Truganina P-9 College, where I excel in both my academics and extracurricular activities. Outside of my regular school hours, I attend the Victorian School of Languages, expanding my linguistic horizons and embracing new cultures. Alongside my academic pursuits, I train in martial arts, developing discipline, focus, and physical fitness. I'm also dedicated to classical Carnatic singing, immersing myself in this rich musical tradition. I am deeply passionate about exploring new cultures and traditional concepts, constantly seeking opportunities to expand my understanding and appreciation of the world. Recently, I had the enriching experience of attending a Kiribatian play, which provided me with unique insights into the customs and storytelling traditions of the Kiribati people. This eye-opening experience deepened my love for cultural diversity. I have actively participated in numerous cultural festivals, each offering a vibrant tapestry of traditions, music, dance, and cuisine, allowing me to immerse myself in various cultural practices and celebrate their rich heritage. As an avid bird lover, I spend countless hours observing and learning about different bird species and their habitats. This passion for avian life has taught me the importance of biodiversity and the need to protect our natural environment. My journey through these diverse experiences continues to shape my perspective, making me more appreciative of the world's cultural richness and natural beauty. Additionally, I had the privilege of attending an Aboriginal cultural event, where we were taught how Aboriginal art is created by the talented Dion Drummond. This experience further broadened my understanding and respect for the rich traditions and artistic expressions of the Aboriginal people.

I am a proud member of the Art of Living (AOL) community, where I actively engage in their studies and teachings. The Art of Living has profoundly influenced my life, providing me with invaluable tools for stress management, personal development, and holistic well-being. The teachings and practices, such as meditation and yoga, have become integral parts of my daily routine, helping me maintain balance and inner peace amidst my busy schedule. Additionally, I am an active participant in MKS Melbourne Kannada Sangha, a vibrant community that connects me to my cultural roots and celebrates Kannada heritage. I frequently participate in cultural dances and deliver talks at Sangha events, sharing the rich traditions and stories of my heritage with others. These experiences not only enrich my cultural understanding but also allow me to showcase and celebrate the diverse aspects of my identity. I organised a clean-up drive at my school, inspiring my peers to take responsibility for their surroundings and work together for a cleaner community. Looking ahead, I have ambitious plans for my future. The discipline, leadership, and resilience fostered within the ADF Cadets align perfectly with my personal values and aspirations. In the nearer term, I am preparing to take the selective test with the goal of gaining admission to either Melbourne High School or Suzanne Cory High School. Both institutions are renowned for their rigorous academic programs and outstanding extracurricular opportunities, making them ideal environments for my continued growth and development. By excelling in the selective test and securing a place at one of these prestigious schools, I am confident that I will be well-equipped to pursue my long-term goal of joining the ADF Cadets and making a meaningful contribution to my community and country.

I'm currently in year 12 student at Suzanne Cory High School. I am passionate about creating positive change and fostering inclusivity in my community. As a dedicated member of the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), I collaborate with students worldwide on pivotal STEM issues, developing innovative solutions like forestry and hydrogels. My commitment to social impact extends to volunteering as a tutor for underprivileged and refugee children through Equal Ed, where I’ve seen firsthand how support can improve educational outcomes.

In sports, I represent my school in volleyball and hockey, where we participated in state-level competitions and experienced playing against other school across the state. In addition, I'm a player at Werribee Cricket Club, where I empower girls as a team and lead my team as captain. My involvement in various disciplines such as the annual 'Relay for Life', and as a fundraiser for organisations such as Kids Helpline through bake sales further nurtures my dedication to engagement and community interconnectedness.

In sports, I represent both my school and the Werribee Cricket Club, leading our team to notable achievements, including runner-up prizes and premier champion titles. Furthermore, I have been a player for the Western Region in the U17 Girls Reps Tournament, where we competed against other regions across Victoria.

I've been volunteer at a local childcare centre, where I have engaged with young children through educational activities and play. This experience has taught me the value of patience, creativity, and mentorship.

Currently, I am involved in several enriching experiences that align with my passions and career aspirations. As a volunteer tutor with Equal Ed, I provide educational support to underprivileged and refugee children, helping them enhance their academic performance and gain confidence in their abilities.

I am also a member of the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), collaborating with peers globally on STEM initiatives, researching and developing innovative solutions to pressing societal challenges. Academically, I focus on sustainability and environmental studies, participating in competitions like the Science Talent Search, where I have been a bursary recipient for five consecutive years.

I am most passionate writing, not only as a journalist for my school newsletter, but as a mode of driving meaningful change. Through my work, I advocate for equitable policies and raising awareness about issues across the globe. Writing motivates me to use my voice to contribute to discussions around justice and economic reform.

In The Age’s Essay Competition, I wrote about the need for reparations for past wrongdoings of institutions such as the British Museum, highlighting the importance of acknowledging historical injustices for colonised countries. This piece earned me the Highly Commended Runners-Up Prize and reinforced my commitment to addressing social inequity. For my 2024 Parliament Prize, I focused on solutions for the housing crisis in Australia, proposing measures to implement and alleviate these cost of living issues for Australians.

I have been a volunteer tutor for underprivileged and refugee children for the non-for-profit Equal Ed, through which I was able to provide students support with their educational needs and received feedback of an improvement in their grades and performance in those topics.

In addition, I have been a volunteer at an early learning centre, where I attended fortnightly to spend time with and host activities for children, fostering connections with the kids.

I influence other young people in my community positively through mentorship, advocacy, and engagement in collaborative projects. As a volunteer tutor with Equal Ed, I support underprivileged and refugee children, empowering them to overcome academic challenges and build confidence in their abilities. This experience not only helps those students but also encourages my peers to participate in similar initiatives.

In my role as a school ambassador, I contribute in promoting community interconnectedness, aiding in facilitating events that encourage engagement in the school community. My involvement in the New York Academy of Sciences allows me to share insights about global STEM issues, inspiring fellow students to think critically about science and its impact on society.

My experience with the NYAS Junior Academy has honed my ability to communicate effectively, particularly in science communication, where I’ve collaborated with peers to find innovative ways to engage the public.

Additionally, my commitment to the Equal Ed volunteer tutoring program has strengthened my skills in mentorship and education, allowing me to support underprivileged and refugee children in overcoming educational barriers.

Moreover, my leadership experience as a captain of sports teams has taught me the importance of teamwork, resilience, and inclusivity. Together, these skills enable me to foster a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and contribute positively to the community.

I am a part of a group called Wyndham Patchworkers Inc, through this group we are involved in numerous community projects, like making charity quilts for various people in need, sewing pencil cases to go to Exford Primary School (where they had the school bus crash most recently). Running collections for Uniting Wyndham’s Winter Food Drives and also hosting Sewing bees, for instance the last time we did this, we made tote bags for Wyndham’s Winter Food Drive 2024 collection.

I also do lots of volunteering outside of Wyndham Patchworkers Inc, like attending Love Our Street 3024 which is a community initiative which collects rubbish around the suburb monthly. Participating in local community tree planting events. I have raised money for various charities i.e. door knocking for the Salvation Army Winter Appeal and the Royal Children’s Hospital. 

Early this year I decided to cut and donate my hair (45 cm which can make 2 wigs) and raise money for the Kids With Cancer Foundation who support families with kids struggling with cancer. My fundraising involved me approaching Wyndham Patchworkers Inc, and my school, Mackillop College who both helped me reach my fundraising goal.

As part of the fundraising efforts I implemented the container deposit scheme in my year level where all the money raised went to the Kids With Cancer Foundation. I am very proud to say that I have raised over $2,000 so far with the support of the community, family and friends. 

I am passionate about sewing and using my abilities to help people and become more sustainable. I am always looking for new opportunities to make my carbon footprint smaller.

I was awarded the General Excellence award in 2023 among 13 others at Mackillop College.  At the year 6 graduation I was awarded the Tim Pallas Endeavour Award at Iramoo Primary School for always trying my best and showing personal growth.

Since childhood, I've embraced curiosity and have always sought to learn and grow in various fields, from science and technology to arts and literature.

I have been actively involved in local initiatives, dedicating time to tutoring students and promoting literacy.

I have initiated fundraisers in my school for community projects, fostering teamwork and inclusivity among peers and neighbors.

I have participated in Model UN and debates while I was in India, promoting understanding and empathy.

Some of the volunteering activities I do:

Baha'i Children's Classes: I dedicate every Saturday to teaching moral education and spiritual principles to children. This helps in fostering their character development and sense of community.

Environmental Fundraising: I successfully led a school project to raise funds for local environmental initiatives. This helped in promoting awareness about sustainability and climate action among my peers.

WynSpeak 2023 Winner: I achieved first place in WynSpeak Heat 2. This competition showcased my public speaking skills and my advocacy for youth empowerment and expression through effective communication.

Chloe is an extremely hard working and determined individual who works tirelessly to achieve her life goals. She is currently pregnant, working, studying, volunteering and working hard to turn her home into a self sufficient house in order to help the environment and live a life rich with nature.

Despite moving to Werribee late 2022, she has already gotten involved in several community events. She has attended all of the Wyndham events since moving, taken part in the tree planting event at Presidents Park, attended the Wyndham Youth Harmony Day and used the Wyndham Volunteer Expo to find local volunteering opportunities.

Chloe is currently in her final year studying a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Wildlife and Conservation Biology) at Deakin University where she is pursuing her passion of building a sustainable future. She is also working fulltime at Whitehorse Day Surgery, where she further develops her professional experiences after several years in the hospitality industry. When she is not working or studying, Chloe can also be found volunteering at Werribee Zoo, which she is extremely passionate about and thoroughly enjoys talking about all of the animals.

Chloe is most passionate about learning and developing new skills and experiencing different cultures and lifestyles to help shape her future into a more sustainable and environmentally friendly one. She is also very passionate about providing her loved ones with the best life and future as possible and she works very hard to do that.

Chloe has taken part in the Tree Planting event which aimed to provide future canopy cover in Presidents Park. She also helps provide a memorable experience to visitors going to Werribee Zoo, whether they're tourists or locals, as she strives to put a smile on somebodies face every day.

Chloe enjoys helping out at Werribee Zoo, particularly during the school holiday events, as she finds great joy in teaching young people within the community new skills or information. She is also eager to build new friendships and help anyone in need, which she hopes will give her the opportunity to at least make someones day.

Chloe is an amazing photographer, which she uses to capture stories, primarily of nature and animals, and share the experiences of those who are unable to share their own story. She is also skilled in sustainble practices and is knowledgable in conservation practices and general wildlife information, which could be used to bring people together to create a healthy and happy community and future.

Chloe hopes to one day have the opportunity to contribute to something larger than herself and make a difference in the world. She hopes to work to create a sustainable future and help people reconnect and find the beauty and peace in nature and natural practices

I believe I deserve recognition as the One Wyndham Young Person of the Month due to my active involvement in various skill-building activities.

I attend Good News Lutheran College and proudly represent my Indian heritage, speaking Tamil and English.

With eight years of basketball experience and interests in singing, dancing, acting photography, and media editing, and plenty more!

Notably, I recently won Heat 2 of the Youth Wyndham Public Speaking competition by Rotary. At school, I hold the position of Arts Leader and engage in community volunteering.

Additionally, I've expanded my leadership knowledge through participation in the Youth Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. My multifaceted engagement reflects my commitment to personal growth and community contribution. I also enjoy reading, walking, listening to music and driving.

My engagement in various community endeavors includes participation in the Young Scientist Competition of Wyndham, a flagship event organized by the Wyndham Learning Festival, spanning a four-year period.

Within this context, I actively contribute to promotional efforts such as verbal advocacy, social media promotion, flyer distribution, and creating a promo video. I have also volunteered for the competition by helping create name tags, checking welfare, assisting participants and their families, and distributing food and water and sometimes assisting with MC. My involvement extends to attending the Turn The Dial workshop facilitated by Reclink Australia, where concerned adolescents gather together to discuss potential sporting or environmental initiatives addressing current community issues. Subsequently, I collaborated with Reclink in organizing sporting activities, including basketball and indoor soccer, where I helped promote the event to students. This engagement facilitated the establishment of new connections and the cultivation of enduring memories.

I am keen to attend University in 2025 as I have my whole future planned. At school, I study the subjects: Physics, Mathematical Methods, Psychology, Chemistry, and English Language. Although lacking formal work experience, I am keen to engage in employment opportunities either before or after my final exams. Concurrently, I am an active member of the Wyndham Youth volunteering team, 'Library Youth Collaborative', convening fortnightly on Fridays to identify current issues in society, devise solutions, and orchestrate various programs and events within our local library network that meet youth needs.
 

I am deeply passionate about exploring new endeavors and gaining diverse experiences in areas that captivate my interest. For instance, participating in the WynSpeak competition has maximized my confidence in public speaking. I've also partaken in coaching my favorite sports team and engaged in various activities such as cross-country running, interschool sports, writing competitions, and international travel to destinations like India, America, and Peru. Additionally, I've showcased my talents in singing, dancing, and acting at school, among other pursuits. Currently, I am pursuing my silver Duke of Edinburgh award through cadets, where I am involved in driving for the skills category, fitness for physical recreation, camping for adventurous journeys, and teaching and volunteering for service. This experience has shaped my ability to set and achieve SMART goals effectively. My diverse interests span from my passion for the Air Force to teamwork, arts, sports, and science-related events, reflecting my multifaceted engagement.

Moreover, I occasionally contribute to the Hare Krishna community through singing and Indian dance at cultural events, and I've previously volunteered for AusTamil, fostering a connection with the Tamil community. This involvement promotes inclusivity, especially given my youth and dedication. Additionally, I volunteered with the Oromo Women's Networking Group, assisting with event setup and connecting with notable individuals like Mayor Cr Jennie Barrera and STEM enthusiast Cr Jasmine Hill and plenty more council members. This experience enhanced my interpersonal skills and appreciation for the Ethiopian community. In this setting I have served as a role model for younger children by demonstrating effective communication and proactive behavior. Lastly, every year, I distribute gratitude cards anonymously to students and teachers, aiming to spread comfort and joy.

One approach of my engagement is through my role as a Cadet Sergeant and my role of 'Assistant Cadet Reference Group Representative' within the Australian Air Force Cadets. In this capacity, I undertake responsibilities such as instructing classes, leading and managing cadets, organizing squadron activities, and supporting daily parade and squadron functions. Within this environment, I foster positive relationships with both team members and the cadets under my instruction, leveraging my higher rank to provide guidance, address inquiries, and mentor newer high-ranked members. Overall, I believe that my active involvement in various activities leaves a positive impression, thereby encouraging other young individuals to engage and develop interest. Additionally, at school, I take the initiative to announce some of the events organized by Wyndham Council, including the LIT festival, social barber, Jam junction, and women's self-defense workshops, etc.

Furthermore, my leadership capabilities have been honed through various paths. I have developed exceptional leadership skills through Cadets and my role as Arts Leader for Hume House for three years, spearheading numerous school activities including art murals, banner decorating for athletics events, and coordinating secondary school photography and art competitions. Additionally, I have contributed to coaching, and guiding a Year 7 girls' basketball team to regional success. Hence, I am in the process of refining my ability to communicate effectively with those in positions of authority while also strengthening my skills in collaborative teamwork, nurturing openness, and demonstrating patience. I pride myself on being highly organized and empathetic, traits that enable me to embrace inclusivity and comprehend the perspectives of others. Such connections are crucial as they have the potential to profoundly impact lives and positively influence individuals' mental well-being.

I am enthusiastic about pursuing a career as an Aerospace Engineer after my university education. Concurrently, I aspire to engage in extracurricular activities such as basketball or singing clubs. Looking ahead, I envision traveling and ultimately settling down with my family in one of the top 10 healthiest countries, where I aim to secure employment. In parallel, I am committed to giving back to the community by offering assistance to disadvantaged communities or orphanages. I maintain a bucket list comprising various goals I aspire to achieve throughout my life journey, and I am keen to engage in anything that piques my interest.

Tanika is an incredible leader within her school environment. Her position as Cultural Leader is important to representing not only her strong Aboriginal background but also her Pasifika Island roots. Not only does she inspire others to connect to culture, but she fosters an environment where people feel they can be their authentic self.

Tanika has been involved in the schools Young Mob program, lead activities for special week such as Reconciliation Week, Harmony Week and Multicultural Week. Tanika is also part of Nesian Youth has contributed to this year's event. Tanika was part of the Wyndham Festival for Healthy Living, including the development of the school’s first podcast. Tanika is always taking up opportunities to engage with groups within the community. Tanika was the MC of Cultural Celebration Night hosted by Wyndham Youth Services and Wyndham Humanitarian Network as took part in the cultural runway.

Tanika works hard in casual work in fast food and is on youth lead committees. This year as part of her cultural role, Tanika is joining the management group to add student voice to the schools second iteration of a Reconciliation Action Plan.

Tanika has taken part and was one of the key organise of the Nesian festival, schools Young Mob program, lead activities for special week such as Reconciliation Week, Harmony Week and Multicultural Week. Tanika was part of the Wyndham Festival for Healthy Living, including the development of the school’s first podcast. MCing Cultural Celebration Night and taking part of the cultural runway.

I am an individual that has traversed diverse various cultural landscapes. I am originally from India and have migrated to Australia at the age of 18 to study. I have been instilled with values of community, compassion, and social responsibility. This has fueled my passion for social work, driving me to actively engage in initiatives aimed at fostering positive change and addressing societal challenges with a special focus on environmental justice, refugees and women, and promoting access to education, With a blend of cultural insights and a commitment to making a difference, I aspire to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of individuals and communities, both locally and globally.

I am the sole participant from Australia for the project undertaken by UN Women and UNICEF. The initiative requires participants to collaborate with international experts and officials to conduct interviews of female refugees and migrant women with an aim to contribute to a formalized research focused on understanding challenges of forcibly displaced refugees and identifying potential strategies for maximum funding impact. I was awarded with Global Citizenship Award in recognition of exceptional dedication to community work including volunteer work as a student mentor, contribution to research paper focused on unpaid domestic care work and its contribution to global GDP if given an equivalent monetary value and organizing campaigns promoting sustainability, advocating for human rights, and fostering inclusivity. I was also declared the winner of Deakin Business Bowater Challenge 2019 – a university-wide competition that challenged participants to provide solutions for a scalable sustainable farming with possibilities for real-world application to the industry experts. I have been a volunteer with the Smith Family over the last 3 years and have contributed towards making education more accessible to the underprivileged students.

I am a highly motivated Consultant at Deloitte focused on supporting profitable and sustainable business growth through financial modelling, reporting, critical financial analysis, and advisory to Consulting leadership along with a passionate social worker dedicated to creating intersectional solutions for environmental justice, supporting refugees, advancing women’s rights, and promoting access to education whilst studying part-time. I am an active member of Deloitte Foundation- a foundation that focuses on philanthropic programs and a small number of strong alliances and through this foundation, through this, I currently volunteer for The Smith Family, providing one-on-one mentoring sessions, organizing discussion forums, and conducting workshops for high school students to help them on topics such as college preparation, stress management, exam preparation. As a part of SF's Growing Career initiative, I visit different colleges and collaborate with industry experts to design contents covering various career fields for underprivileged students.I have also graduated from UN Diploma (through UNAA) and actively participate and lead events to raise awareness on UN's SDG's.

I am deeply committed to building inclusive communities where everyone's voice is heard, valued, and respected and fostering a world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Specifically, sustainability is a cause close to my heart. I am dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable practices that protect our planet for future generations. From reducing carbon footprints to promoting renewable energy and advocating for conservation efforts, I am driven to contribute to a more sustainable and resilient world.Additionally, my passion extends to supporting refugees and displaced populations. I am a passionate advocate of refugee rights, and have actively worked with organisations e in providing holistic support and advocacy for refugees and asylum seekers.

Throughout my engagement with community service, I've been fortunate to contribute positively in several ways. One notable project involved volunteering with The Salvation Army at a local homeless shelter, where I organized weekly events to provide meals, clothing, and hygiene kits to those in need. This experience taught me the importance of compassion and solidarity in addressing societal challenges. Additionally, I volunteered with The Smith Family’s literacy program, tutoring children from underserved communities, fostering a love for learning and empowering them with essential skills for their future. Whether it's providing academic support, career advice, or simply being a supportive listener, mentoring has enabled me to share my knowledge and experiences while also learning from their unique perspectives. In the realm of gender-equity research, I've been actively involved in research projects aimed at understanding and addressing disparities across various sectors. Furthermore, I participated in environmental clean-up initiatives, organizing my workplace efforts to preserve local ecosystems and promote sustainability. These experiences have not only allowed me to give back to my community but have also reinforced my commitment to social responsibility and inspired me to continually seek opportunities to make a positive impact.

Through my combined roles as an I-track mentor with The Smith Family and Girl Guides leader, I am committed to empowering young people within our community, helping them realize their potential, and inspiring them to make a positive difference in the world. As a Girl Guides district leader, I led a group of enthusiastic young girls through engaging activities, fostering their personal development, leadership skills, and sense of community responsibility. Within our Girl Guides group, I promote inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that every girl feels welcomed and valued for who they are. This inclusive environment encourages mutual respect and friendship among the girls. Through a variety of outdoor adventures, skill-building activities, and community service projects, I encourage the girls to step out of their comfort zones, develop new talents, and discover their strengths. I uphold and promote the values of honesty, integrity, and compassion. Through discussions and role modelling, I help the girls understand the importance of these values in their lives and relationships. I encourage the girls and my mentees to actively participate in community service projects, such as volunteering at local shelters or cleaning up parks since only by giving back to their community, they develop a sense of empathy and social responsibility.

I believe my strong communication skills, cultural competence, and empathy significantly contribute to fostering an inclusive, thriving community. My ability to listen actively, engage in meaningful dialogues across diverse groups, and articulate ideas clearly has enabled me to bridge gaps and build strong, respectful relationships. Having lived and worked in multicultural environments, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives and understand the importance of cultural sensitivity in creating a welcoming atmosphere. My empathetic approach ensures that I remain attentive to the needs and feelings of others, promoting an environment where every individual feels valued and understood. My vision for the future is to make a tangible impact by empowering communities through education and mental health support, creating a safe environment for refugees, advancing environmental sustainability by protecting and restoring natural ecosystems and empowering local communities to lead sustainable lifestyles. I want to expand my community outreach and collaborate with schools and colleges to develop curriculum focused on gender studies thereby fostering an early understanding of equality, sustainability, and environmental studies. I aim to collaborate with local councils and organize eco-camps and workshops for youth that offer hands-on experiences in conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. In a world where more and more people are falling victims to mental health issues, I do want to continue implementing impactful programs to address diverse community needs and foster community engagement. Through these efforts, I aim to contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable world where everyone has equal opportunities, rights, and representation.

7 years ago I immigrated to Australia at age 9. I didn't know much about Australia or its sports! I didn't exactly like footy, cricket or basketball. What I did like though was volleyball but unfortunately here in West Melbourne, volleyball wasn't very prominent. Especially due to West Melbourne’s socio economic status compared to East Melbourne where majority of the Volleyball Clubs are situated. I was frustrated!
 

That's why I worked with my dad to create a non for profit volleyball club the " Melbourne volleyball club" to create an opportunity for kids like me who never got the chance to take part in the sport they love. We have raised about $4000 dollars from donors for our cause and have 30 young players expressing an interest! I have dedicated myself to providing kids like me, in Wyndham, who lack the opportunities to part-take in the sport they love.

I first started small. I made small changes in my school to cultivate a stronger sporting culture. I acted as student representative and then later became sports captain who introduced an after school sports program.

I frequently part take in leadership and planning programs/courses.
I have participated in the Huddle's (North Melbourne Football Club's Non-profit organisation)“Gamechangers" event, co-hosted by the Equal Ed organisation, This helped me to develop the necessary skills and knowledge of event management on how to plan and propose a large scale event.

I was one of twenty six successful applicants in the whole of Australia of the Australian Olympic Committee's "Changemaker's award" that recognised my leadership efforts in leveraging the benefits of sport to improve my community. I have been invited to attend the 2023 Australian Olympic Change-Maker National Summit where I improve my leadership abilities such that I can apply it in my community.

Currently, I am studying and have completed the VCE units 3 & 4 for psychology. Whilst I converse with members of my community I always try to check up on their mental and physical wellbeing. Having learnt knowledge about the human psychology allows me to identify sources of stress and make any suggestions to improve their health. Recently, I had completed my employment with the Huddle as a ‘program support officer’ where I help run the 2023 Winter Basketball competition.

I am most passionate about providing everyone with an equal opportunity to pursue their passion, talent and even interest. I believe no individual no matter their race, socio economic status or nationality should be deprived of an equal opportunity to succeed. This passion of mine results in my actions to advocate for a more accessible facility for extra curricular activity such as sports. My childhood had lacked the sport I loved solely because there had been little development of the sporting culture in West Melbourne therefore now as a young adult with a voice to be heard, I advocate for there to be more accessible sporting clubs for kids like me in the West!

I helped pioneer the proposal of a school based sports academy and have planns to take additional measures such as applying for government grants to help fund our school's sporting environment. This was done primarily through the Wyndham Council hosted program, the "Wyndham Student Representative Committee” in 2022. The experience allowed me to gain an insight as to how to plan and structure a proposal to my school's principal. As well as to use it as a medium to voice the interests of students for a more accessible sport facility.

I influence other people around me by garnering an authentic relationship with them. By constantly thinking empathetically, I am able to converse with my peers in a way they feel valued and heard. The 2023 WEPN (Wyndham Emerging Professionals Network) event held by Wyndham Council, Nidhi and Geet that focused on Communication and Emotional Intelligence allowed me to learn ways to communicate empathetically. I would like to thank my fellow panel speakers Martin Probst for sharing information on how to effectively work with others as a leader, Serena Low, another panel speaker, sharing her intricate knowledge on how to control one's emotions and Liam Cross (Senior Community Employment Project Officer Wyndham Council), for providing me with the opportunity to attend as a panel speaker to share and learn knowledge about "Communication and Emotional Intelligence" which I then used to applied to my community and in school!

I believe one of my greatest skills is the ability to be empathetic and to exercise humility. I believe this is especially important as being part of a community requires me to act collectively in its best interest rather than my individual self. To be empathetic would allow me to understand the position of my fellow community members and how they feel about an issue. This empowers me to consider their feelings and opinions while solving an issue. To exercise humility is a skill I have learnt being a leader in my school community. As a young individual, more importantly a leader, to be able to prioritise issues at hand over one’s ego is incredibly important, especially in a collective settings.

My hopes and dreams in the future is to instil inspiration and motivate young aspiring individuals to find love for a sport. I am a firm advocate for sports serving as a medium to maintain physical, mental and social health. Specifically, I wish to see students of every school be able to part take in a sport facilitate in their school. For every student to be able to part take in such an important extra curricular activity. Schools are the perfect facility for sporting programs as they allow for students to feel comfort in an environment they are familiar and be able to adopt their identity as proud representatives of their school. Additionally, schools are highly accessible and have the potential to be more than a learning ground.

I am a secondary high school student and recently was awarded the Citizenship Captain.

I have planned over 15 fundraisers for organisations including the Red Cross, the kid Helpline, the MATW project, the RSL, the Cancer Council and many more. these fundraisers often come in the form of bake sales or selling goods.

I have raised $2,500 with the help of my friends and family for those in need in the past 6-8 months.

In particular I planned an extensive bakesale at my school on the 27th of November to raise funds for humanitarian aid for children in Gaza currently. Raising over $1000 dollars from the bake sale.

I have also volunteered many hours to my local age care home, working with the amazing staff to bring joy to the elderly.

I absolutely love working with the sweet and wise elderly people at this aged care and am looking forward to working with them in the future. I have also worked with the RSL to support returned veterans. i believe this work to be extremely important because it allows me to recognise and give back to those who gave their life for my country.

I am a very diligent student, who strived for excellence in all my subjects. I have been passionate about Debating/public speaking for the majority of my high school years. I love talking about important issues and working in a team.

I have been involved in DAV (Debating Association of Victoria) and was also awarded the Swanni Award. This award goes to students with the highest debating scores in their district (western district). I also participated in WynSpeak, where I spoke about the impacts of social media. I recently participated in the Monash Asian Studies Debate where schools from across Victoria come together to debate contemporary issues relevant to Asia. Debating has been a domain that I truly love and will continue to partake in for many years to come.

A community issue that I was fortunate to be a part of earlier this year, is Reconciliation week. Together with other students, I was able arrange activities in my school to help shift our mindset about the right of Indigenous people. I truly believe that while fundraising is key to help the community, we cannot move forward as a society without first changing our attitudes towards certain issues. During Reconciliation week, we tackled this issue, by asking each and every student what their opinion was about Australia's history, culture and achievements. We also ran seminars to talk about how everyone can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

I also fundraised for the Kids Helpline. As I have seen bullying in schools. I ran this fundraiser because the issue hit me the most, as I have personally experienced the effects that bullying can have on a child. I also shared this experience with my community and how I received help in the hope that I could inspire others to also not stay quiet on the issue.

I believe I influence the youth in our community by being a role model and acting in a way that that inspires future generations. For a long time, I was afraid of being a leader and standing in front of a crowd and giving a speech. Once I realised that i could change someone's perspective, I threw my doubts away and went for it. Public speaking about important topics has been my way of voicing my opinions and knowledge so that other young people in our community can learn from my experiences. I also know that to be an effective leader and inspiration it is important to truly know who you are trying to influence. This was especially important for me, in my role as School Ambassador, where other young individuals come for a tour of my school. It never failed to amaze me, how intrigued the students were to look around and how they hung onto my every words as a prazed our school's amenities. I realised through my position that I can truly bring a change to these people's mindsets and help them in their journey.

I believe that I have a talent to build empathy in individuals. I understand that every single person's life is their own and that a community cannot be truly inclusive without putting yourself in other people's shoes.

I hope to become a lawyer in the future. this passion was sparked in year 7 as I was inspired by other women in my family who are proficient lawyers in their field. I have found that ,fighting for justice and those who have been wronged is the most important way to spend my life.

In particular I want to work in an organisation that provides legal services to those who normally would not have been able to afford a lawyer. This is because I believe legal aid should be available to everyone despite their circumstances in life.

Win Aung is from a Karen refugee background and lived in a refugee camp for more than a decade on the border of Thailand and Burma.

He is now studying at University and also working in accounts. He is also a very good role model for many young people from the community of Burma.  He is a valued supporter for seniors and leaders in Melbourne Karen Buddhist Community and other communities of Burma. He has also received the New and emerging Diverse Community Leadership Excellence Award and Lalor Hero Award.  

Win is the youth leader of Melbourne Karen Buddhist Association, the youth department helping with building the community Temple including project planning and development.

He organized the MKBA Youth Sport Tournament that around 12 hundred young people across Wyndham attended and participated.

He led the team in the event planning, budgeting, funding application and ground controls.

He is currently studying, working and also serving the communities with projects, and many youth and volunteers activities.

Sport and other community recreation activities, and building youth activities as well as spiritual activities, like meditation and reflection training.

Win contributed by organizing many youth activities for the Karen Communities and has also supported several program activities of Karuna's, Friday youth drop in program.

Win has excellent management skills, leadership skills ( he participated in Wyndham Interfaith Network's Youth Leadership Camp and others ) accounting skills, as his major is commerce and art from Uni.
