Your personal information and that of your nominee and referees is being collected by Council for the purpose of considering nominations for the Wyndham Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Award 2025.  By providing this personal information, you confirm that you have the consent of the nominee and referees for their information to be collected, used and stored for this purpose as specified in the Wyndham Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Award 2025 Terms and Conditions. Your personal information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. Declaration

By submitting a nomination to the Wyndham 2025 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Award (‘awards’), you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

These terms and conditions should be read with any relevant award information, including your nomination form and any information published by Council regarding the awards.

  1. NOMINATIONS

    1.1 To nominate a person for the awards, you must be over 18 years of age and must submit a properly completed nomination form via Council’s website between 9:00am on 1 August 2024 and 11:59pm on 15 September 2024.  Nominations which are incomplete or do not comply with these terms and conditions are not valid and will not be accepted.

    1.2 You must obtain the consent of the person you are nominating for the awards prior to submitting a nomination.  If the nominee is aged under 18 years of age, you must have the consent of the nominee’s parent or legal guardian to submit the nomination.  Evidence of this consent must be provided to Council on request.

    1.3 You must have the consent of your referees to submit their contact details with your nomination.  Evidence of this consent must be provided to Council on request.

    1.4 You agree to immediately notify Council of any changes to your nomination, including the request to withdraw your nomination, by emailing citizenawards@wyndham.vic.gov.au
     

  2. ELIGIBILITY

    2.1 To be eligible for an award the nominee must be:

    (a) an Australian citizen;
    (b) aged over 16 years of age;
    (c) a Wyndham resident.

    2.2 To be eligible for the Young Citizen of the Year Award, the nominee must be aged between 16 and 25 as at 26 January 2025.

    2.3 To be eligible for the Citizen of the Year Award, the nominee must be aged 26 years or above as at 26 January 2025.

    2.4 Council staff, Councillors, the award judges (Tarang Chawla, Anglelika Broederlow, Kate Nicoll) and their immediate family members are ineligible to submit a nomination or be nominated for an award.

    2.5 Previous winners of Wyndham’s Citizen of the Year Awards are ineligible to be nominated for an award.
     

  3. JUDGING

    3.1 The judging panel will assess all nominations between 17 September and 2 October 2024 in accordance with the assessment criteria published on Council’s website.  Up to 6 nominees will be shortlisted for each award category.  Shortlisted nominees will be contacted by Council no later than 15 November 2024.

    3.2 Shortlisted nominees will be required to accept their nomination and may be asked to participate in an interview between 28 October and 1 November 2024.  Interviews may be conducted online (e.g. via Zoom or Microsoft Teams) if they cannot be conducted in person.  Shortlisted nominees who are aged over 18 will be required to undergo a national police check at Council’s cost.

    3.3 Subject to a satisfactory police check and interview (if conducted), the judging panel will contact the referees in each shortlisted nominee’s nomination form to undertake a reference check. 

    3.4 On completion of the police and reference checks and interviews (if conducted), the judging panel will determine the winners of each award category.

    3.5 Nominees will be notified of the outcome of their nomination no later than 5:00pm on 12 December 2024.

    3.6 The winner of each award category will be announced at the Australia Day in Wyndham event to be held at Wyndham Park on 26 January 2025, and may subsequently be announced on Council’s websites and social media pages.

    3.7 Each winner will receive a trophy, pin, certificate and flowers, valued at approximately $600.  Award winners may receive invitations to Council events in 2025, such as Citizenship Ceremonies, as determined appropriate by Council.
     

  4. CANCELLATION

    4.1 Council may disqualify a nomination where Council reasonably believes that these terms and conditions have been breached, or that false, inaccurate or misleading information has been provided in the nomination or otherwise.

    4.2 Notwithstanding any other provision of these terms and conditions, Council expressly reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the awards and/or amend these terms and conditions at any time.
     

  5. FEEDBACK

    You acknowledge that the feedback you provide in your nomination form will be de-identified and used by Council to evaluate its service delivery.
     

  6. GENERAL

    6.1 Nothing in these terms and conditions or in the conduct of the parties creates a relationship of agency, partnership, employer and employee or joint venture.

    6.2 Council accepts no responsibility for late, lost, incomplete, invalid or corrupt nominations.

    6.3 Council’s decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
