Evocative by Lyn Stephenson

Evocative is a series of paintings that invites the viewer to explore the senses and seeks to evoke something within us. It may be a sensation, an image, a memory – or a feeling that triggers a connection to the colour and shapes of the painting. 

All my life I have been inspired by the environment around me. Having grown up in England where I began to paint as a young woman, then spending over forty years in South Africa developing my skills; and eventually coming to Australia with its unique and beautiful light. I carry within me the sights and colours, the sounds
and aromas of the land and the people of each place where I’ve lived. These life experiences play an essential role in my art. 

Over the years, beginning with oils and realism, and later exploring other mediums and finding a love of expressionism, I have developed an abstract/impressionism style, which gives me the freedom to express myself as the artist I am today.
