From 31 December 2024, Council will change the way it supports its older residents, moving from a direct service model to a model that assists residents to find the service that best suits them amongst the many aged care service providers across Wyndham.

This means that Council will support residents to transfer to a new service provider for services such as home maintenance and modifications, assistance with cleaning and household chores, personal care such as showering and dressing, community social activities, respite for carers, delivered meals, Lunch with the Bunch, 121 transport and community transport.

These changes also apply to State funded services including HACC PYP (for people under 65) and Support for Carers.

Over coming months, Council will work with the State and Federal Governments to develop a transition plan to ensure that Wyndham residents experience a smooth transition to new providers for ongoing services from 1 January 2025.

Should a client over the age of 65 of over 50 if from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background wish to change to a new provider sooner, they can do so by contacting My Aged Care:

Website: www.myagedcare.gov.au

Landline: 1800 200 422

Should they require assistance to do so, Council’s Community Connectors are available and can be contacted via:

Wyndham City will also:

  • Strengthen our role in advocating for the needs of residents to ensure that the voices of residents are better represented at a State and Federal level;
  • Strengthen our role in planning for older residents to ensure that future infrastructure better meets the needs of residents; and
  • Continue our very successful Seniors Festival, Seniors Directory and Seniors Expo.
