Hosted in collaboration with Kids Unlimited, the Junior Chess tournament sees pairs of players facing off until a winner is decided. Competitors must be between the ages of 9-13 and it is free to enter.

JUNIOR CHESS TOURNAMENT 2025 TERMS AND CONDITIONS

By entering your child in the Junior Chess Tournament 2025 at Truganina Library Lounge (located in Truganina Community Centre, 1 Everton Road, Truganina 3029) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on 23 January 2025, (‘tournament’), you warrant that you are their parent or legal guardian and you agree to accept these terms and conditions.

 

1. ELIGIBILITY

1.1. To be eligible to enter the tournament, your child must be aged between 9 and 13 years of age as at 23 January 2025 and live, study or socialise in Wyndham.

1.2. Council staff, Councillors, employees of Kids Unlimited and their immediate family members are ineligible to enter.

 

2. ENTRIES

2.1. Entries open at 5:00pm on 16 December 2024 and close at 5:00pm on 10 January 2025 and must be made via EventBrite.  There are 46 places available for the tournament and entries will be accepted on a ‘first come first served’ basis. There will be a waiting list for 10 places only once all places have been filled and you will be notified if a place becomes available.

2.2. Entries that do not comply with these terms and conditions will not be valid and will not be accepted.

2.3. Council accepts no responsibility for late, lost, incomplete, invalid or corrupt entries.

 

3. TOURNAMENT PLAY

3.1. Entrants must arrive with their parent or legal guardian at the Truganina Library Lounge and check in to the tournament by 1:00pm on 23 January 2025.  Entrants who have not checked in by 1:15pm will be disqualified from the tournament and will not be permitted to play.

3.2. Entrants will compete against each other in a series of chess matches.  The schedule of play will be determined by Council officers and the tournament arbiter from Kids Unlimited.  Entrants will receive one point for every match they win, half a point for every match they draw and no point for every match they lose.

 

4. PRIZES

4.1. At the end of play, a winner and two runners up will be determined based on number of points scored during the tournament.  The winner and runners-up will each receive a trophy (total prize pool valued at $37.39).  All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.

4.2. Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

 

5. ANNOUNCEMENT OF TOURNAMENT WINNERS

Tournament winners will be announced on the Libraries in Wyndham Facebook page on 24 January 2025.  If your child is a tournament winner, you consent to the publication of your child’s name in connection with this announcement.

 

6. CANCELLATION

6.1. Notwithstanding any other provision of these conditions, and regardless of whether your child’s entry into the tournament has been confirmed by Council, Council expressly reserves the right to cancel the tournament at any time.

6.2. Council reserves the right to cancel your child’s entry in the tournament and/or not accept future registrations for events or tournaments where you have submitted false, inaccurate, insufficient or misleading information as part of your child’s entry.

 

7. GENERAL

7.1. Council may, acting reasonably in the circumstances, require you to provide evidence of your child’s identity and/or eligibility to enter the tournament.

7.2. If for any reason, the tournament cannot be run as planned, Council reserves the right to modify the tournament at any time.

7.3. Council reserves the right to amend these conditions at any time.

7.4. Council’s decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
