Tarneit Kite Festival is back!
Join us for a day of family fun and community spirit as we celebrate the magic of flight at the Tarneit Kite Festival.
Enjoy the beauty of a sky filled with giant soaring and swooping kites. For those wanting to join the kite flying fun, you can fly your own, buy one on the day or purchase a DIY one to make on the day.
There will be live entertainment and food trucks, ensuring a perfect day out for the entire family. Bring your loved ones, book a date with friends, and savour everything this event has to offer.
Getting There and Parking
Live Local
If you live close by, we encourage walking to the event. It’s amazing to have an event in your own backyard so take advantage of the proximity to you and walk from home.
Public Transport
The event is easy to get to by bus. The 167 Bus route stops directly outside the event location. This bus connects with Tarneit Train Station. Click here to see bus route and timetable.
Car Parking
There is optimal street parking around the venue.
Public parking is also available at:
- Goddard St Reserve Car Park, Goddard St, Tarneit
- Tarneit Gardens Shopping Centre Car Park, Ankuri Rd or Penrose Promenade, Tarneit
- Only About Children Childcare Car Park, Turva Avenue, Tarneit
Traffic management officers will be present on the day assisting with parking management.
Patrons are encouraged to park a short distance away and walk in.

Conditions of Entry
The Tarneit Kite Festival is one of the free events being delivered by Wyndham City Council (‘Council’) as part of the Meet me in Tarneit event series. Attendees must comply with the Conditions of Entry below so that everyone can enjoy the Tarneit Kite Festival in safety and comfort.
Kite Flying
Kites must only be flown in the designated kite flying zone.
Alcohol and smoking
Alcohol and smoking are not permitted at the Tarneit Kite Festival.
Photography/Filming
Live streaming or broadcasting of the Tarneit Kite Festival is not permitted. Commercial photography is not permitted without prior permission from Council.
Children
Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
Pets and animals
Dogs are permitted at the Tarneit Kite Festival provided that they are on a lead and supervised by their owner at all times. Owners must pick up after their dogs. All other pets and animals are not permitted at the Tarneit Kite Festival.
Advertising and the sale or hire of goods
Attendees are not permitted to sell or offer for sale or hire any items, nor to distribute handbills, pamphlets, notices or other advertising materials, without prior permission from Council.
Anti-social behaviour
Anti-social behaviour is prohibited. The Tarneit Kite Festival is intended to be family friendly, safe and comfortable for all attendees. Council requires that attendees behave in a safe, responsible and courteous manner at all times.
Free activities
Many of the free activities offered at the Tarneit Kite Festival are run by local businesses and organisations. Council makes no guarantee about an activity’s quality or suitability for attendees. Attendees are responsible for deciding whether an activity is suitable for them and/or their children to participate in.
Be SunSmart
It is recommended that attendees take proper SunSmart precautions at the Tarneit Kite Festival, including using sunscreen, wearing a hat and staying hydrated.
Property
Attendees are responsible for all personal property taken to the Tarneit Kite Festival and must not leave their property unattended. Council reserves the right to remove any property left unattended at the Tarneit Kite Festival.
Consent in relation to images and photographs
By attending the Tarneit Kite Festival, attendees consent to the capturing and publishing of their image in authorised promotional photos and videos in whatever format and forum Council chooses.
Compliance with laws and directions
Attendees comply with all laws and follow all reasonable directions given by Council officers, authorised event security personnel and/or Victoria Police.
Cancellation and/or modification of event
Council reserves the right to cancel and/or modify the Tarneit Kite Festival. Cancellations and modifications will be advised via Council’s website (www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/tarneit) and the Wyndham City Facebook page (www.facebook.com/wyndhamcitycouncil).
Failure to Comply with Conditions of Entry
Failure to comply with these Conditions of Entry may result in an attendee being removed from the event and refused re-entry to the event and/or future Council events.
Changes to these Conditions of Entry
Council reserves the right to change or modify these Conditions of Entry at any time.

Yes, a DIY kite-making-kit will cost $10. There will be limited stock of these on the day also, so we encourage you to get in early.
Is there a specific Kite Flying Zone?
Yes, there is and you are encouraged to make yourself familiar with the rules of this area before entering.
What are the rules of the Kite Flying Zone?
To ensure a safe and enjoyable kite-flying experience for all, please make sure you follow these rules:
- Kites may only be flown in the kite flying zone. Please do not fly your kite outside of this area.
- Keep a safe distance between you and others in the kite flying zone.
- Interference with any other person’s kite will not be tolerated (including cutting line)
- Follow the instructions given by Council officers, event security and/or Victoria Police.
- Have fun!
Are there restrictions on the type of kite I can fly?
Kites that use Manja Line string are strictly prohibited. Security will be checking kites before allowing them to be flown in the public kite flying zone.
What happens if it rains?
The Meet me in Tarneit events take place outdoors at local neighbourhood parks. Weather will be monitored in the lead up and throughout the events.
If there is extreme weather forecast in the days leading up to any of the sessions, messaging will be placed on the Wyndham City Facebook page to alert attendees that elements may be moved, postponed or cancelled.
Will the activations be accessible?
Yes, the park is accessible. We also welcome visitors with assistance animals certified by a registered authority.

Is this event Sensory Friendly?
Yes, there is a low sensory space allocated – you can find a Quiet Zone marquee on site between the two ovals under the trees.
We recommend coming early for lower intensity as the event tends to be quieter in the first hour.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are permitted at the Tarneit Kite Festival provided that they are on a lead and supervised by their owner at all times. Owners must pick up after their dogs. No other animals are allowed on site. Please consider that the movement of the kites and loud music may not be an appropriate environment for your dog though.
Will there be food available for purchase?
There will be a great selection of food trucks on site, with a range of savoury and sweet. Coffee and ice cream will also be available.
Are there rides at the event?
Yes, there are rides at the event. The rides are managed by local Tarneit business Dreamwave Entertainment and supplied by Action Events. Tickets for rides can be purchased at the onsite ticket box by cash or digital payment.
Will there be toilet facilities on site?
Yes, there are toilet facilities located in the park, including accessible facilities.
