School crossing supervisors have a much-valued role in Wyndham where they offer the safe passage for students and parents crossing the road near schools during peak school times.
They also:
- Play an important part in educating children and the community with use of school crossings
- Adopt and educate the 'Stop, Look, Listen, Think' approach to operating the school crossing and always ensure they #KeepKidsSafeOutsideTheSchoolGate
- Are responsible for reporting any road hazards or potential risks
- Operate traffic control signals to regulate traffic flow as required around school crossings.
Wyndham City is responsible for the running of school crossings, training and employment of school crossing supervisors and the supply of the uniforms and equipment. Funding support is received by the Department of Transport and Planning to help with these costs.
Wyndham City operates over 170 school crossings to support over 70 school campuses and the team employ over 200 staff to maintain this service. We works closely with School Crossings Victoria to ensure our staff are appropriately trained in specific policies and procedures.
It is the responsibility of all road users to adhere to road rules to help ensure the safety of children and pedestrians using the school crossing.

Hours of Operation
School crossing supervisors work for one hour during school terms within the dedicated school zone times of: 8am to 9.30am each morning, and, 2.30pm to 4pm each afternoon.
Crossing times may vary in accordance with school needs and requirements.

Education Awareness Day & Events
School Crossing Supervisor Safety Awareness Day: As a reminder to drivers about slowing down around schools and to honour Brian Beach from Wodonga who sadly lost his life whilst on duty during February 2024, Wyndham school crossing supervisors will be wearing a School Crossing Safety ribbon to mark this occasion.
Children’s Week Picnic: Each year our School Crossing Supervisors attend the free event, hosted by Wyndham City, at the annual Children’s Week Picnic in the beautiful Werribee Park Mansion grounds. Opportunities for children and their families to experience a simulated School crossing environment.
