Werribee City Centre Planning & Development

The Werribee City Centre forms part of the Wyndham City Heart. It has a walkable network of streets and lanes that are focussed on Watton Street as its main activity street. The community vision is:

Werribee City Centre is a destination for all in the heart of Wyndham. It embraces the Werribee River with vibrant streets, beautiful public spaces and a range of attractions.

Werribee City Centre support’s approximately 4,520 jobs which in total generate approximately $1.15 billion in annual economic output. (Remplan 2023) Employment and output generated is spread across a relatively broad range of industry sectors, highlighting Werribee City Centre’s mixed-used use function.

While always a focus for business, shopping and dining, over the past number of years the City Centre has further evolved as a mixed-use precinct. Recent development has included residential apartments and hotels, high-quality cafes and restaurants, and entertainment venues such as small bars. As such, the City Centre is vibrant and growing as a destination for the broader Wyndham community.

The City Centre boasts a network of open spaces and regional cultural assets such as the Wyndham Cultural Centre (with theatre, art gallery and library). The City Centre also features a large regional events and recreation precinct centrally located on the river, which includes:

  • Wyndham Park, a stunning regional events and recreation facility on the river in the heart of the City Centre
  • Chirnside Park, a sporting and recreation precinct featuring the home of Werribee VFL Football Club, Werribee Outdoor Pool, tennis, lawn bowls and angling clubs
  • Werribee Racecourse and
  • Eagle Stadium regional indoor sporting facility.

A refreshed Werribee City Centre Plan was adopted by Wyndham City Council in August 2024, following extensive community consultation. The adopted documents are available for viewing and download via the links below:

A planning scheme amendment process is planned to incorporate the two Schedules listed above into the Wyndham Planning Scheme
