Wyndham City invites feedback on the proposed design and lighting of Levittown Rise Park’s iconic 1960s red brick incinerator in Werribee.
The proposed design will see the incinerator’s chimney and ‘hopper’ structure transformed into a focal point for the park.
The incinerator chimney will feature lighting and a viewing platform and will be installed on the hopper, to provide views to the You Yangs.
Upgrades to the park will also include a cycling and pedestrian path around the incinerator, park furniture, and landscaping for residents to enjoy.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw said the incinerator was built in 1966, and is a reminder of a time when waste was burnt and buried in the old quarries.
“We’re transforming it into a striking feature for the park, adding lighting and a viewing platform on the hopper for amazing views out to the You Yangs,” Cr Shaw said.
“It will become a drawcard for locals across Wyndham, further increasing the park’s appeal since we installed the dog off-leash area in late 2023.”
