Wyndham City is proud to announce the official opening of ‘Zone 5 West’ of the Greening the Pipeline Project with a family fun day.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, encouraged everyone to join the celebrations that will mark this milestone stage of the Greening the Pipeline project.
“Our boulder amphitheatre event space is now complete and provides a unique space to meet, play and relax for users of the Federation Trail,” she said.
“Other highlights include the Education Lookout, Community Garden and the ‘Narrarrang Ngarri’ Sheoke sculpture by Kait James that acknowledges the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nations’ care for Country.”
Wyndham City’s Williams Landing Ward Councillor, Larry Zhao, said the Greening the Pipeline project aims to transform the Main Outfall Sewer (MOS) along its 27-kilometre-long course and surrounds, into a linear park.
“The project has nine zones that, when complete, will form a linear parkland connecting communities, enhancing transport options and helping to manage water in and around the area,” he said.
“The Zone 5 project runs through Wyndham City, from the Skeleton Creek crossing, through the suburb of Williams Landing and up to Lawrie Emmins Reserve, over two separate zones, east and west of Forsyth Road. We look forward to this project making our city more vibrant.”
Greening the Pipeline is a partnership between Melbourne Water, Greater Western Water, the Department of Transport and Planning, the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Wyndham City Council and is supported by Greening the West.
Greater Western Water’s (GWW) General Manager Strategy and Partnerships, Kessia Thomson, said the organisation was excited to see another phase of this project coming to life.
“GWW is proud to support Greening the Pipeline through integrated water management projects like the Arndell Park Stormwater harvesting project in Truganina.”
“Once complete, our 22-megalitre stormwater harvesting system will collect rainwater to provide a sustainable source of water for parkland, bringing the local community together and connecting existing open spaces.” Ms Thomson said.
Melbourne Water Executive General Manager, Service and Asset Lifecycle, Craig Dixon said: “For more than a century, this pipeline has contributed to the health of generations of Melburnians, and it will continue to do so as a new space for amenity and activity.”
“Congratulations to our partners at Wyndham City Council, and we look forward to working with them on the next stage, which will be in the eastern half of Zone 5.”
