genU Karingal St Laurence

genU is short for Generation You. Because whatever generation you belong to, whether you’re young, old, or somewhere in between, what unites us is the belief that neither disability nor ageing are disadvantages to be endured but challenges to be met boldly, achievements to be had and adventures in the making. Their mission is to enable each person they support to live the life they choose.

Current Volunteer Roles

• Participate Activities Assistant for Dance/singing program at Wyndham Park House - Tuesdays 9am – 3pm
The purpose of the Participate Activities Assistant is to assist genU staff with facilitating the Dance and sing program. With a focus on fun and inclusion, participants are provided with opportunities to learn a variety of songs which are chosen and created by the group. The group will learn songs and dance for a performance at the end of each term for families and staff.

• Participate Activities Assistant for Theatre, Drama, and storytelling program at Wyndham Park House - Wednesdays 9am – 12pm
The purpose of the Participate Activities Assistant is to assist genU staff with facilitating the Theatre, Drama and Storytelling program. Participants will engage in a variety of drama activities including structured warmups and improvisations while building relationships within the group and increasing fitness and confidence. The group works on watching short videos and then act out the videos. The current short video is 'little red riding hood'

• Participate Activities Assistant for for Media and Documentary making program at Wyndham Park - Wednesdays 1 -3 pm
The purpose of the Participate Activities Assistant is to assist genU staff with facilitating the Media and Documentary Making program. The Media and documentary program works on the participants skills to produce and direct short documentaries of a topic of their choice. The group explores basic concepts of documentary making and develop the understanding of its importance to work together as a team to research and explore. This program works towards developing and strengthening participants skills such as script writing, interview questions, safely using various equipment, directing and producing a short documentary.

• Participate Activities Assistant for for Gardening program at Wyndham Park House – Fridays 9am – 3pm

The purpose of the Participate Activities Assistant is to assist genU staff with facilitating the Gardening program. Participants are active members of the local Community Garden. They learn all about gardening and sustainability as well as meet some new friends along the way. The group is presently working in the Wyndham Park House backyard and getting the garden back to life!
