Annual Report 2017 - 2018

Section 131 and 134 of the Local Government Act 1989 requires all Councils to prepare and consider an Annual Report.

The Annual Report 2017/18 provides an overview of Council’s work and delivery over the year, with highlights of key projects and initiatives.

The report contains Council’s audited financial statement and provides a snapshot of the Council organisation, its elected Councillors, and a summary of how Council performed against operational targets.

This year, Council transformed the Annual Report into an interactive web-based format, moving away from the traditional print. This format provides the community with a new way of engaging with the report in an accessible way.

Council adopted the 2016/17 Annual Report at the Special Council Meeting held on 23 October 2018.

Highlights in 2017/18

Wyndham City’s successes over the year represent a range of activities, events and milestone achievements, including:

  • Construction of the Wyndham Integrated Family and Child Centre and Aboriginal Community Centre has commenced and is on track for completion by mid-2019.
  • New kindergartens opened in Tarneit North and Wyndham Vale to meet the immediate needs of Wyndham’s increasing demand for kindergarten places.
  • Completion of the $11.75 million Chirnside Park redevelopment including a regional level pavilion and facilities for women’s football.
  • Major road upgrades including Armstrong Road and Bulban Road to reduce congestion and improve safety.
  • Construction commenced of the $3.8 million sports pavilion as part of a new sporting hub in Williams Landing.
  • Delivery of Council’s first ever WYNnovation the inaugural innovation and entrepreneurship festival to assist companies to adapt and evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of their customers.
  • Council has strengthened its advocacy role by seeking Federal and State funding for various transport projects as well as providing submissions and facilitating discussions on regional transport projects.

Annual Report 2016 - 2017

Wyndham City’s Annual Report 2016/17 provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges we face as a rapidly growing municipality, while also celebrating our major achievements in delivering significant community services and infrastructure.

The Report contains Council’s audited financial statement and provides a snapshot of the Council organisation, its elected Councillors and a summary of how Council performed against operational targets during the 2016/17 financial year.

Council adopted the 2016/17 Annual Report at the Special Council Meeting held on 24 October 2017.

Highlights in 2016/17

Wyndham City’s successes over the 2016/17 year have been numerous and represent a broad spectrum of activities, events and milestone achievements, including:

  • Wyndham City, in partnership with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, delivered the Sons of the West program, completing health education sessions and structured and fun physical activity for residents.
  • The $11.7 million redevelopment of Chirnside Park which will position it as one of the premier event venues in the City, providing community spaces and function rooms.
  • The development of the Wyndham Library Service Strategy 2018-2040 which will provide a strategic and integrated framework and direction for Council’s ongoing provision of contemporary library services and facilities.
  • The completion of Wyndham City’s Large Scale Solar project took place with the rollout of more than 2 Megawatts of solar panels across Council’s major buildings and facilities. This will reduce Council’s annual energy bill by more than $380,000 and reduce greenhouse gasses by more than 2,000 tonnes per year.
  • The WynLens – Visualisation, Analysis and Modelling of a Holographic City project was awarded the prestigious National Award for Excellence in Local Government and the Federal Government’s Innovation to Create More Liveable Cities award.

The purpose of the 2015 -2016 Annual Report is to provide an overview of achievements for the year, a snapshot of the Council organisation and its elected Councillors, and a summary of how the Council performed against identified targets.

Snapshot of Council

Wyndham is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria, growing at a rate of 5.1 per cent.

This is an additional 10,202 persons or 196 new residents per week . There are 12 babies born each day to Wyndham mothers, with a record 4,379 births in the 15-16 financial year (or 84 babies a week).

The current population of the City of Wyndham is 213,911, with a projected population of 424,476 people in 2036. There are 72,555 households in Wyndham in 2016, this forecasted to extend to 146,998 households by 2036.

Wyndham is home to a young population with the largest age group being 30 to 34 years, with a population of 20,670 people. This is followed by the 0 to 4 age group with 19,920 persons.

Thirty per cent of Wyndham residents speak English as a second language with 33.6% of the population born overseas. The top five countries of birth of Wyndham residents in 2016 were India, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Philippines and China.

There are currently 26 religions represented in Wyndham. While 72% of Wyndham’s population follows a faith, 19.2% of the population presented with no religion.

Annual Report 2014 - 2015

The purpose of the Annual Report is to provide an overview of achievements for the year, a snapshot of the Council organisation and its elected Councillors, and a summary of how the Council performed against identified targets.

Printed copies of the Annual Report 2014/5 are available for inspection from Customer Service at the Civic Centre and the Wyndham Vale Community Centre, and at Wyndham City libraries.

The 2014/ 2015 Annual Report will be considered by Council at the Ordinary Council Meeting 7pm on the 26 October, 2015 which will be held in the chamber at the Wyndham Civic Centre, 45 Princes Highway Werribee 3030
