Temperature sensors will be placed in three parks in Wyndham City to monitor air temperature levels. The project will run through the spring and summer months when the prevailing wind direction is from the north or from the south.
The project aims to better understand the level of localised cooling that neighbourhood parks provide in the new suburbs of Tarneit, Point Cook and Werribee.
A central objective of the research is to understand how urban park design, vegetation and irrigation management can influence the localised cooling benefit.
Local climate measurement will be made continuously within the neighbourhood parks and along the roads running north and south from the parks.
This project also takes a smart cities and real-time communication of climate approach through the use of LoRaWAN internet of things technology.
